Boys and Girls club leaders address our weekly meeting.  We were happy to welcome Peter Thornton and Wendy Worden

Peter Thornton and Wendy Worden spoke to our members to update us on latest developments at the Boys and Girls club of Paterson.

This is an endeavor that is close to our heart as our Rotarian Bill Rush has been on the board of the club for over 25 years.

Peter provided a brief history of the growth of the club over the years and the involvement of New York Giant, Victor Cruz, who passed through the program as a teenager.  He told us of how over 1,000 kids participate in the program every day.  He highlighted how there are now 10 locations staffed by the club that provides shelter, fun and education for kids and teenagers.

Wendy explained that from 4-5pm the kids do homework,  from 5-6pm they attend art, swimming or basketball.  They are then fed and finally are picked up at 6:30pm

The day is not done though, because teenagers then come into the facilities for the evening and a second program begins.

Please watch the video for more insights into the work of this initiative.  Also, feel free to visit us any Thursday morning at 7:30am at The Brick House to see if you would like to help us with our volunteer initiatives.
